Public information officer named to assist news media and courts JACKSON -- A public information officer is now available to assist news media representatives with inquiries related to the state's courts. Former newspaper reporter Beverly Pettigrew Kraft is public information officer for the state court system, Rick Patt, acting director of the Administrative Office of Courts, announced. Kraft, working for the Administrative Office of Courts, will assist with inquiries related to the County, Chancery and Circuit courts, the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court. The public information officer position was created to assist the courts and the media. Patt said, "The creation of this position will ensure that the news media and other interested parties will receive important information concerning the state court system. Other states have found that a public information officer is vital in ensuring that the public is accurately informed about the workings of the judicial system." "We are very fortunate to have someone with experience and zeal possessed by Ms. Kraft," Patt said. Kraft, 41, of Madison, has worked as a news reporter for 20 years, first for the former Jackson Daily News, then for The Clarion-Ledger. She has written about state and federal courts for the past 15 years. Kraft is a graduate of Mississippi University for Women.
