Justice James Graves to speak at Black History Month programs Mississippi Supreme Court Justice James E. Graves. Jr. will speak at nine school, church and youth conference programs in Brandon, Jackson, Flora, Ridgeland, Crystal Springs, Gulfport and Indianola during February, which is Black History Month. Justices Graves’ speaking schedule includes: Feb. 3, 8 a.m., John Hopkins Elementary School, Jackson, during the Boys to Men Breakfast; Feb. 4, 1 p.m., Central Elementary School, Gulfport; Feb. 6, 2 p.m., Crystal Springs Middle School, Crystal Springs, during youth gospel program; Feb. 10, 9:30 a.m., Holiday Inn North, Jackson, during the 8th Annual Mississippi Youth Service Summit; Feb. 12, 9 a.m., Hardy Middle School, Jackson, during the 8th Annual Families and Mentors Conference; Feb. 15, 9 a.m., Ridgeland High School; Feb. 23, 10 a.m., Cassie Pennington Junior High School, Indianola; Feb. 27, 10 a.m., Rock Star Baptist Church, Brandon; Feb. 27, 12 noon, Woodman Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Flora. Justice Graves served as a circuit court judge of the 7th Circuit District for 10 years. He was appointed to the Mississippi Supreme Court by Gov. Ronnie Musgrove on Oct. 29, 2001. He was elected to a full eight-year term on Nov. 2, 2004. Justice Graves received a B.A. degree in sociology from Millsaps College. He received his law degree from Syracuse University College of Law. He also holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. He worked as a staff attorney at Central Mississippi Legal Services and as a special assistant attorney general. He headed the Human Services Division of the attorney general's office, where he served as chief legal counsel to the Mississippi Department of Human Services. He later was director of the Division of Child Support Enforcement of the Mississippi Department of Human Services. #### |
