Circuit and County Courts of Jackson County order delays

The Circuit and County Courts of Jackson County, acting in response to the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina, have delayed trials, motions and hearings previously scheduled between Aug. 29 and Dec. 1.

Jackson County Senior Circuit Court Judge Kathy King Jackson in an order entered Sept. 13 also suspended deadlines for filing motions, appeals and discovery materials until Dec. 1. New settings will be made through the office of the Circuit Court Administrator as soon as practical.

Judge Jackson’s order says, “Because of the extent of the damage, the various supporting offices, agencies and personnel of the Jackson County Circuit Court are unable to perform the normal duties and functions of the Court system.”

Jackson County Court Judge Larry Wilson entered a similar order Sept. 19th delaying trials previously scheduled for the period of Aug. 29 through Dec. 1 and suspending deadlines for filing motions, appeals and discovery materials until Dec. 1.

Emergency criminal matters will be handled on a case by case basis in circuit and county courts.

The orders do not affect statutes of limitations.
