Justice Graves to teach trial advocacy at Harvard Law School Mississippi Supreme Court Justice James E. Graves Jr. will be a guest instructor at Harvard Law School Sept. 17-21. It will be his sixth year to teach at the Harvard Trial Advocacy Workshop. Lawyers and judges from across the country make up three teaching teams. The three-week program is part of the clinical training for third-year law students at Harvard. Justice Graves for a week will teach all aspects of trying a case, from opening statements to closing arguments. “They learn how to try cases,” Justice Graves said of the students participating in the program. Justice Graves presided over civil and criminal trials for 10 years as a circuit court judge for the 7th Circuit District of Hinds County. He joined the Mississippi Supreme Court on Nov. 1, 2001. Justice Graves also taught special programs at Stanford Law School and Syracuse University School of Law. He has served as an adjunct professor at Jackson State University, Tougaloo College and Millsaps College. He has spoken to student groups all over the state as well as at national and international education conferences. #### |
