Notice about February Relocation of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, Board of Bar Admissions, and Related Offices

From Friday, February 8, 2008, through Monday, February 11, 2008, the Supreme Court of Mississippi, the Court of Appeals, the Board of Bar Admissions, and related offices are scheduled to move into the new Gartin Building. This move will affect the courts’ services and activities in several ways.

New Gartin Building. The street address for the new Gartin Building is the same as the old Gartin Bldg.: 450 High St., Jackson, MS 39201. The post office box addresses will not change.

The new Gartin Building is located adjacent to and north of the old Gartin Building. The main entrance to the new building will be on the east side. Public parking will be available in the Sillers Parking Garage on the corner of George St. and President St. (enter from President St.). Limited public parking will be available in a small parking lot north of the new Gartin Building near George St.

Web site. The Supreme Court web site, www.mssc.state.ms.us, will be off line from 5 p.m. on February 7, 2008, to 8 a.m. on Monday, February 11, 2008.

No hand downs on Feb. 12 and Feb. 14. The Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court will not hand down decisions on Tue., Feb. 12, and Thu., Feb. 14, respectively.

Clerk’s Office. The office of the Clerk of the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals will be open with limited staff on Friday, February 8, and Monday, February 11. Documents can be filed with the Clerk those days. However, depending on the progress of the move, filing with the Clerk may be difficult. Documents can also be filed with the Capitol Police station on the south side of the first floor of the Capitol Bldg., 601-359- 2368.

The Clerk’s office telephone number, 601-359-3694, will not change. The Clerk’s office will be located on first floor of the new bldg.

Supreme Court. The main telephone number for the Supreme Court Justices and their immediate staff, 601-359-3697, will not change. They will be located on the fourth floor of the new bldg.

Court of Appeals. The main telephone number for the Court of Appeals will change to 601-576-4665. The Court of Appeals judges and staff will be located on the third floor of the new bldg.

Courtrooms. Two courtrooms are located on the second floor of the new bldg.

Finance Office. The telephone number for the Finance Office, 601-359-3731,will not change. The Finance Office will be located on the first floor of the new bldg.

Administrative Office of the Courts. The Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) will be located on the second floor of the new bldg. and will have a new telephone number: 601-576-4630.

State Library. The State Library will close effective Monday, February 4, and will reopen around Tue., February 19, on the second floor of the new bldg. The telephone number of the Library, 601-359-3672, will not change. Patrons who want to visit the Library after the move should call ahead and confirm that the Library has reopened to the public.

Board of Bar Admissions. The Board of Bar Admissions will be located on the second floor of the new bldg., and its telephone number will change to 601-576-4620.

Commission on Continuing Legal Education. The Commission on Continuing Legal Education will be located on the second floor of the new bldg., and its telephone number will change to 601-576-4622.

Board of Certified Court Reporters. The Board of Certified Court Reporters will be located on the second floor of the new bldg., and its telephone number will change to 601-576-4623.
