Investiture for Judge Gregory is December 30 An investiture ceremony for newly elected Third Circuit Court Judge John A. Gregory is scheduled for 2 p.m. Dec. 30 at the Chickasaw County Courthouse in Okolona. Chancellor Kenneth Burns will administer the oath of office. Retired Circuit Judge R. Kenneth Coleman and retired Chancellor James S. Gore will be guest speakers. Judge-elect Gregory will fill the judgeship which Judge Henry L. Lackey held for 17 years. Judge Lackey did not seek re-election. The district includes Benton, Calhoun, Chickasaw, Lafayette, Marshall, Tippah and Union counties. Gregory is among new circuit, chancery and county court judges statewide who will take the oath of office within the next few days. State trial court judges serve four-year terms. Gregory, of Okolona, has served for 23 years as Chickasaw County prosecuting attorney. He was attorney for the Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors for the past 18 years, and served as attorney for the Okolona Municipal Separate School District for the past 23 years. He previously served for 15 years as Okolona city attorney, and for nine years as an assistant district attorney for the Third Circuit Court District. He played football for four years at the University of Mississippi, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. He earned his law degree from the former Jackson School of Law, now Mississippi College School of Law. He served as a law clerk for the Mississippi Supreme Court, working for the late Justice Stokes V. Robertson. He is past president of the Okolona Chamber of Commerce. He is an elder of Okolona Presbyterian Church. He is married to Claire Luebke Gregory. They have a son, a daughter and one grandson. #### |
