WINGS to discuss proposed legislation to protect vulnerable adults on April 15

April 15, 2016

WINGS, the Working Interdisciplinary Network of Guardianship Stakeholders, will meet at 10 a.m. April 15 at the Gartin Justice Building in Jackson.

The WINGS Policy and Legislation Subcommittee is expected to present its proposal of legislation to improve the way Mississippi protects vulnerable adults. Professor Desiree Hensley and students at the University of Mississippi School of Law have researched and drafted proposed legislation. The proposed legislation is one of the steps toward system reforms to support the rights, dignity and autonomy of vulnerable adults while better protecting them from abuse and neglect.

WINGS’ report of its activities during the past six months will be submitted to the National Guardianship Network Grant Committee on April 15. Copies of the report will be available at the meeting.

The WINGS committee also will discuss sustainability of the project and upcoming efforts to improve guardianships in Mississippi.

The next WINGS event will be a continuing legal education program about guardianships and conservatorships. The Education and Training Subcommittee will sponsor the CLE program on June 3 in the First Floor Meeting Room at the Mississippi Supreme Court.
