WINGS to meet September 8 in Jackson

September 1, 2016

WINGS, the Working Interdisciplinary Network of Guardianship Stakeholders, will meet at 10 a.m. September 8 at the Gartin Justice Building in Jackson.

Administrative Office of Courts Deputy Director Ta’Shia Gordon, Mississippi Wings coordinator, will open the meeting. Supreme Court Justice Dawn Beam, who recently joined the WINGS committee, will speak at 10:15. Justice Beam, who served for five years as a chancellor in the 10th Chancery District, is very familiar with the court’s responsibility to protect vulnerable adults.

At 11 a.m., Catherine “Ginny” Kilgore, adjunct professor and director of the Elder Law Clinic at the University of Mississippi School of Law, will talk about the work of the clinic. At 12:30 p.m., Gordon and Professor Desiree Hensley of the University of Mississippi School of Law will lead a discussion of sustainability of the WINGS project and upcoming efforts to improve guardianships in Mississippi.

The WINGS committee was formed in 2015 to work toward improving the way Mississippi protects vulnerable adults.
