Campbell, Sawyer reappointed to Commission on Judicial Performance December 5, 2016 The Mississippi Supreme Court has reappointed Roy D. Campbell III of Jackson to the Commission on Judicial Performance. The Court also reappointed Karen K. Sawyer of Biloxi as an alternate member to the Commission. The appointment order, filed Nov. 30, is for six-year terms beginning Jan. 1, 2017, and ending December 31, 2022. Campbell, immediate past president of the Mississippi Bar, was first appointed to the Commission on Judicial Performance as an alternate member in October 2011. Chief Justice Bill Waller Jr. appointed him as a member of the Commission on April 8 to fill an unexpired term. Sawyer was appointed April 8 to replace Campbell as an alternate member. Chief Justice Waller in the Nov. 30 order reappointed Sawyer to a full term as an alternate member. The Commission on Judicial Performance investigates allegations of judicial misconduct and makes recommendations for discipline to the Mississippi Supreme Court. The Commission includes seven members and seven alternates. An alternate takes the place of a member who is not able to participate in a particular judicial discipline case. Campbell served as president of the Mississippi Bar from July 2015 to July 2016. He has held numerous bar leadership positions, including chair of Summer School for Lawyers and as a member of the Professionalism Committee of the Mississippi Bar. He is a Fellow and former Trustee of the Mississippi Bar Foundation. He is a past president of the Capital Area Bar Association. The Mississippi Bar awarded him its Distinguished Service Award in 2005. The Greenville native is a partner is the Jackson firm of Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP, where he focuses his practice on commercial litigation and product liability. Sawyer has for many years served in leadership roles with the Mississippi Bar, including president of the Mississippi Bar Foundation, chairman of the Bar Committee on Professional Responsibility, and as a member of the Mississippi Bar Board of Commissioners. She is former president of the Harrison County Bar Association. She was the recipient of the Mississippi Bar’s 2012-2013 Distinguished Service Award. She was the recipient of the Susie Blue Buchanan Award from the Mississippi Bar’s Women in the Profession Committee in 2015. She is a shareholder of the law firm Copeland, Cook, Taylor and Bush. She works in the firm’s Biloxi office, where she does appellate practice in the areas of insurance coverage and medical malpractice. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and an OBGYN nurse practitioner certificate before earning her law degree. #### |
