Eligibility for Admission on Motion in Mississippi is restricted to those who have practiced not less than five (5) years in a jurisdiction(s) that accept(s) Mississippi attorneys for admission without examination (see note below). The five (5) year practice of law requirement contemplates that the work done by the applicant be of a general legal nature but not work that is very narrow in scope, is of a type which need not be performed by an attorney, or does not generally require the services of an attorney. An attorney’s five (5) years of prior practice must have constituted a full-time or regular undertaking and not have been on only an occasional or haphazard basis. PLEASE NOTE: Review the list of jurisdictions with which Mississippi has a Reciprocal agreement for Admission on Motion. Applicants should review the rules of their jurisdiction pertaining to Admission on Motion. If the reciprocal jurisdiction’s rules are more stringent or exacting or contain other limitations, restrictions or conditions of admission, the admission of the applicant shall be governed by such rules. If an applicant has been licensed by more than one state, the Board shall determine in its discretion the licensing state to which reference shall be made in determining whether to admit an applicant by comity and reciprocity. If the Board determines an applicant does not meet the qualification for admission without examination, the applicant will be required to complete an Application Update to sit for the Mississippi Bar Examination and the applicant will be required to take the full Bar Examination (fees paid are not refundable but would be applied to cover the cost to take the Bar Examination).
