Justice Waller addresses CLE seminar in Greenwood

Mississippi Supreme Court Presiding Justice William L. Waller Jr. will speak to the Delta Regional Bar Meeting at 10:45 a.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at the Hampton Inn, 1815 U.S. 82 West in Greenwood.

Presiding Justice Waller in the one-hour presentation will discuss recent rules adopted by the Mississippi Supreme Court. Since 2001, he has served as chairman of the Supreme Court Rules Committee.

His presentation is part of a day-long Mississippi Bar Continuing Legal Education seminar. The event, known as the CLE on the Road program, is open to lawyers from Bolivar, Carroll, Coahoma, Grenada, Holmes, Humphreys, Montgomery, Quitman, Sunflower, Sharkey, Washington, Yalobusha and Yazoo counties.

During the afternoon session, Seventh District Chancellor Jon M. Barnwell of Greenwood is scheduled to present an update on the Chancery Courts at 2:30 p.m.

Fourth District Circuit Judges Betty W. Sanders and Richard A. Smith of Greenwood and Margaret Carey McCray and Ashley Hines of Greenville are expected to present a Circuit Court update at 3:15 p.m.

Presiding Justice Waller, of Jackson, is the second longest serving member among the current justices of the Mississippi Supreme Court, having joined the court in January 1998.

He serves as chairman of the E-Filing/Court Docket Management Study Committee. He served as Chairman of the Mississippi Public Defender Task Force in 2000-2001 and 2004 to the present. He served on the Judicial Study Commission created by the 2001 Legislature to examine the state's judicial system and recommend changes.
