Judge Barnes to be honored by National Association of Women Judges

Mississippi Court of Appeals Judge Donna M. Barnes will be honored at the National Association of Women Judges Regional Conference April 28 at the Savoy Hotel in Miami Beach, Fla.

Judge Barnes, of Tupelo, is among seven women judges who will be recognized at a noon luncheon honoring women leaders of state courts. Others to be honored at the luncheon are Presiding Judge Pamela Baschab of the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals, Justice Janice Holder of the Tennessee Supreme Court, Justice Carol Hunstein of the Georgia Supreme Court, Justice Barbara Pariente of the Florida Supreme Court, Chief Justice Sarah Parker of the North Carolina Supreme Court, and Judge Paula Thomas of the South Carolina Court of Appeals.

Judge Barnes was appointed to the Court of Appeals in 2004, and elected in 2006.

Judge Barnes earned her B.A. and law degrees from the University of Mississippi. For more than 18 years, she practiced law in Tupelo. She took sabbatical to study at the University of Cambridge, where she earned her Master of Law in 1997.

She currently serves on the Mississippi Access to Justice Commission, the Judicial Advisory Study Committee, and the Criminal Code Revision Consulting Group. She was recently inducted as a Fellow of the Mississippi Bar Foundation.
