Investiture for Judge W.M. Sanders is December 29

An investiture ceremony for newly elected Seventh Chancery Court Judge W. M. Sanders is scheduled for 3 p.m. Dec. 29 at the Leflore County Courthouse in Greenwood.

Chancery Judge Jon Barnwell will administer the oath of office. Circuit Judge Betty Sanders will speak.

Judge-elect Sanders will fill a newly created judgeship in the Seventh Chancery District. When she takes the bench in January, the Seventh Chancery will have three judges. The district includes Bolivar, Coahoma, Leflore, Quitman, Tallahatchie and Tunica counties.

Sanders is among new chancery, circuit and county court judges statewide who will take the oath of office within the next few days. State trial court judges serve four-year terms.

Sanders, of Greenwood, previously served as Leflore County Court and Youth Court judge. She currently serves as Greenwood Municipal Court Judge. She previously was managing attorney for the Clarksdale office of North Mississippi Rural Legal Services. She has a private law practice in Greenwood.

Sanders is a graduate of Alcorn State University and the University of Mississippi School of Law.

She is a member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

She is the mother of two children.
