December 21, 2010

An investiture ceremony for newly elected Fifteenth Circuit Court Judge Anthony A. Mozingo is scheduled for 2 p.m. Jan. 7 at the Pearl River County Courthouse in Poplarville.

Senior Circuit Judge Prentiss Harrell will administer the oath of office. U.S. District Judge Keith Starrett will speak at the investiture in Poplarville.

Judge Mozingo will informally be sworn in at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 5 at the Marion County Courthouse in Columbia, and at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 6 at the Jefferson Davis County Courthouse in Prentiss.

Mozingo will fill the judgeship which Judge R. I. Prichard III held for 38 years. The district includes Jefferson Davis, Lamar, Lawrence, Marion and Pearl River counties.

Mozingo, of Oak Grove, is among new circuit, chancery and county court judges statewide who will take the oath of office within the next few days. State trial court judges serve four-year terms.

Mozingo most recently served as Municipal Court Judge for Purvis, Justice Court Judge Pro Tempore for Jefferson Davis County, and attorney for the Lamar County Board of Supervisors. He previously served as municipal judge for the city of Lumberton.

He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi and earned a law degree from the Mississippi College School of Law.

He is married to the former Ashley Smith. They have three children.
